SILC Emergency Management Committee conference call

The MOSILC Emergency Management Committee will meet via conference call on Wednesday, January 14 from 1:00pm until 2:00pm.

This meeting is to discuss and plan a face-to-face meeting with SEMA (State Emergency Management Agency) regarding the long delay in the actual creation of the FAST (Functional Assessment Support Team) emergency sheltering system in Missouri.  Training was completed in May and June of 2014 but the SEMA has failed to create the initial statewide team or take any of the additional required steps needed since those training events.  The lack of implementation means that emergency management entities across the state do not have the resources to provide adequate sheltering to individuals with access and function needs (disabilities) in general population shelters.

FAST is a project that was mandated for Missouri over 4 years ago.  It’s implementation is long, long overdue. With the numerous personnel changes at SEMA, including the state director, the FAST program has fallen through the cracks.
