Technical assistance and resources

Information, technical assistance and training are available through DVR. As the state agency administering funds for independent living centers, DVR has the direct responsibility to provide assistance to local organizations investigating, planning, and/or developing potential centers. The needed expertise may be provided either by DVR employees or arranged by the agency to be provided by another person or organization. Services obtained through DVR are provided at no cost to the centers.

Centers are to contact the DVR's Director of Independent Living Services for information and possible technical assistance. Technical assistance may be scheduled by contacting:

State Independent Living Council (SILC)

SILC was created by Title VII of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended. Its members are appointed by the Governor and are broadly representative relative to disability and geographic distribution. One of the Council's duties is to prepare the State Independent Living Plan in concert with DVR.

One of the Council's goals is to establish a statewide network of independent living centers. The Council is offering, when available, its corporate and individual member expertise to centers needing technical assistance. The Council may be contacted either through its DVR liaison (the director of independent living, as noted above) or directly by addressing correspondence to:

Missouri Centers of Independent Living (MOCIL)

MOCIL is an organization of selected independent living centers who are dues-paying members. It is organized to promote the independent living philosophy and to advocate for independent living.

MOCIL members can be contacted to provided assistance as needed. Help from MOCIL may be gratis, or in some instances, may require payment. MOCIL is independent from DVR and does not receive state funding. Assistance through MOCIL may be sought by contacting:
